When we first got married, we'd spend
weekends at my wife's cabin working to
make it a livable house.
Before the cabin had running water, we
had to leave a bucket of water on the
woodstove before we left. We'd return,
light the stove, melt the frozen bucket,
and use the hot water to melt the ice
from the well cover so we could get more
water. This picture, showing a boy pouring
hot water on a frozen pump, sums up the chore
nicely.
